Guest Review: Succubi Like It Hot by Jill Myles

Tracy’s review of Succubi Like It Hot by Jill Myles.

With a flirtatious new figure, her dream job as an archaeologist, and two gorgeous boyfriends to scratch her seductive Itch—an angel and a vampire—Jackie Brighton is totally getting the hang of life as a succubus.

Then her need for sex spirals out of control, and she accidentally knocks the pizza guy unconscious with her touch. Great, she’s cursed. Unfortunately, neither of her jealous lovers is exactly talking to her right now.

So after Jackie strikes a deal with a crafty demon, she and her best friend Remy take a cross-country road trip to deliver a cryptic message to the nation’s oldest succubus (who doesn’t look a day over eighteen.) Their journey gets weirder with every mile—demonic possession, a charming stalker, a deadly hotel room warning—but when they get to New Orleans, Jackie discovers a dangerous catch to her supernatural bargain. Someone wants her dead (again), but has she been sleeping with the enemy?

Or do the forces of evil think they’re some kind of match for a vixen in a miniskirt?

When we begin the second book in the Succubus Diaries series we find newly turned Succubus Jackie dealing with every day life. She’s been living with Zane, her vampire sire, but seeing Noah, her Serim sire, as well. Noah, however, wants all of her attention. He wants for Jackie to see him exclusively but Jackie’s just not ready to make a move like that. She has great feelings for both men but she can’t see herself giving up one for the other. Noah doesn’t like that decision and says that they need to take a break.

Unfortunately right after she has this conversation with Noah she discovers that she’s cursed. Yep, turns out, according to a demon that she’s talked to, that her succubus needs will go from needing sex every 48 hours to sooner and sooner and sooner and pretty soon she’ll start to wither away because of not enough sex. Besides that, when she touches someone who’s not supernatural they fall asleep and apparently have some out of body experience since they’re not hanging out in their own minds – which is where they should be.

Jackie’s succubus friend Remy says she’ll take her to Delilah in New Orleans – the oldest succubus and a voodoo priestess so that she can help Jackie. But Remy has to do some promo for her latest porn movie so they decide to take a road trip instead of flying. It seems that everything that could possibly go wrong on the trip does. Zane, who’d come along with Jackie, leaves as soon as he finds out that she’s cursed. Remy’s co-star is killed and someone is following Jackie – among other things. Once Jackie gets to New Orleans things don’t begin to go any better and Jackie’s not sure what she’s going to do to get un-cursed.

This was a great second book in the Succubus Diaries. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed at first that Noah and Zane were acting like such asses toward Jackie but they came through for her in the end. Ms. Myles had a great way of keeping us in suspense about what was happening with the two men and why and she definitely had me thinking that my favorite man, Zane, was a complete jerk. I should have known better. Zane may be a vampire but he’s really got a heart of gold – especially where Jackie is concerned and I have to say he’s my favorite between Noah and Zane.

SLiH was another fun read with the humor, suspense and snarkiness that we received in the first book, Gentlemen Prefer Succubus. I’ll be looking for book 3 when it comes out next year.

Rating: 4 out of 5
